Oesophageal reflux is a common condition caused by a faulty valve at the bottom of the oesophagus that allows the acid from the stomach to escape into the oesophagus. The operation used to treat reflux is called Fundoplication.
Fundoplication uses the fundus, or upper part of the stomach to plicate, or tie around the lower oesophagus. By doing this the operation creates a new one-way valve at the bottom of the oesophagus to stop the stomach acid from coming back up.
Endoscopic treatments for reflux are not currently freely available, however we are happy to discuss whether you may be a candidate for this.
