Inguinal hernias are common and can be repaired by a number of methods. Most patients with inguinal hernia will seek to have them repaired as they cause discomfort and tend to grow over time making them more difficult to live with and potentially more difficult to repair. The risk of emergency complications from hernias that are not repaired is about 1% per year. There are several differing keyhole and open surgical repairs available and we prefer to tailor the procedure to suit the patient.
